Denver is the largest city of the American state Colorado. Two years ago, I spend a day in this beautiful city, which offers incredible opportunities to have fun, but also to understand the American culture. Even if it is not a touristic city, there are plenty fun things to do in Denver, and I will guide you through it. The best thing about it? You will not meet too many tourists, the attractions are not crowded, and you can easily enjoy a fun and interesting day in Colorado.
Here are some fun things to do in Denver:
1. Colorado State Capitol
Right in the city center of Denver, you will see the famous building, Colorado State Capitol, constructed in 1890. Nowadays, it is the home of the Colorado’s Governor, and you can visit it for free. It doesn’t sound cool, but it was actually a lesson of American culture for us, and we understood better how the United States work. We joined one of the free tour offered by their tourist office, and the guide explained everything to us! It is a must if you are in Denver, and I recommend you to go early in the morning.
2. Colorado Railroad Museum
As we are fans of trains, we had to visit the Colorado Railroad Museum, located in Denver. It was a great experience, as the US uses trains for more than a century, and they have a great history of it. The tickets for the museum are not expensive, and you will get the chance not only to see trains, but also to walk inside them, and to see how people were traveling decades ago. It is one of the bets fun things to do in Denver!
However, if you are into museum, you should also see the Denver Museum of Natural Science, or the Denver Art Museum.
3. Red Rocks
One of the most famous amphitheater sits in the US is the Red Rock Amphitheater, located on the legendary Red Rocks trail loop. Almost every day you can enjoy a concert here. It is said the scene has a great acoustic, and it offers a unique environment for rock concerts and show. When we were there, the Mumford and Sons band was playing, and even if we didn’t have tickets, we enjoyed listen to them from outside. So if you visit Denver, make sure you buy tickets in advance.
4. The Coors Brewery
We like beer, so when we heard one of the most popular beer brands in the US has a brewery in Denver, we knew we have to see it. Visiting the brewery is one of the fun things to do in Denver, and I recommend you to go in the evening. A Coors bus will pick you up from the parking and take you to the brewery, where you can listen to the history of the brand, but also watch the beer production process. The best thing? The tour ends in the Coors pub, where you can try for free three Coors beers. Cheers!
5. Casa Bonita
Well, this is not necessary a tourist attraction, but it is one of the fun things to do in Denver, especially if you are a South Park fan. As you should know, the dudes from South Park, especially Cartman, love to go to Casa Bonita, and I was surprised to see the restaurant actually exists. And it has the waterfalls and everything you saw in the movie, and a night with Mexican food is a must in the US, as the two cultures blended in the last years. Make sure you catch one of the cliff/waterfall jumping shows!
And if we talked about South Park, you should also know that few kilometers away from Denver you can actually visit the town. South Park is actually a ghost town in Colorado, one of the best preserved ones in the States, where you can see how people lived during the gold rush! It is a lesson of history, but it is cool and fun!
6. Enjoy Denver
In the end, all I can say is that Denver will surprise you. Just get lost on its streets, admire the skyscrapers, go shopping, and enjoy the local artists which share their souls everywhere around the city! You will love it!
